We begin with primary materials—open records responses, meeting minutes, court filings, audits, contracts, and other official documents—rather than anonymous claims or unverified social posts. When we rely on interviews or tips, we corroborate them with records or additional witnesses whenever possible. We describe what we know, what we do not know, and what we are still pursuing.
Investigations and major stories include a right-of-reply process. We contact affected officials or agencies with specific questions and a reasonable deadline to respond. Their answers are reflected in the published piece or noted if they decline to comment. We do not guarantee publication timing to sources, and we do not allow sources to review drafts before publication.
Where appropriate, we publish supporting documents, timelines, and methodology notes so readers can evaluate our work. Sample or illustrative metrics on the site are labeled until verified totals are confirmed. When we update a story after publication, we note what changed and why in the piece or in our corrections log.
